Preparation for an intensive starts long before the first day in the studio. It’s not just about packing leotards or perfecting combinations, it’s about setting yourself up to feel supported, fueled, and ready to learn once the days get long and demanding.

Setting your body up for success
When training hours increase, rest becomes part of your discipline. Getting enough sleep isn’t about being “perfect”, it’s about giving your body the chance to recover so you can actually benefit from the work you’re doing. The more consistent your routine is before an intensive begins, the easier it is to adjust once the schedule picks up.
Fueling for more than just class
Nerves, early mornings, and busy schedules can make eating feel like an afterthought, but fueling your body is essential for both physical stamina and mental focus. When meals are balanced and planned ahead, even loosely, you spend less energy worrying about food and more energy dancing.
We've learned that under-fueling doesn’t show up immediately. It sneaks in as fatigue, lack of focus, or burnout a week or two later. Preparation now makes a real difference later.
Building recovery into your routine
Stretching and rolling out don’t need to be long or complicated to be effective. What matters most is consistency. Taking even a short amount of time after class to release tension can prevent soreness from piling up day after day.
Making recovery a habit, rather than something you only do when you’re already sore, helps keep your body responsive and resilient throughout the intensive.
Final thoughts
Preparing for a ballet summer intensive isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about creating routines that support you when things get hard. When you prioritize rest, fuel your body well, and build recovery into your day, you walk into the studio more confident, focused, and ready to grow.
